Bentley ‘Monster by Mulliner’ unveiled at CES

Bentley’s bespoke coach-building division Mulliner has teamed up with high-performance audio brand - Monster - for a special edition Continental.

Making its world debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the unique Monster-inspired 'Monster by Mulliner' is based on a Bentley Continental GT V8 S, and is ‘designed to appeal to the target market of young professionals and movers and shakers in sports and music’.

Monster says all genres of music, including Hip Hop, Rap, EDM and Rock, will be heard ‘with new ears’ via the custom sound system not available in any production car in the world. A total of 16 hand selected Monster speakers, personally tuned by Head Monster Noel Lee, delivers 3,400-watt of ‘Pure Monster Sound’ - the company’s signature audio profile.

Embodying the Monsters colour scheme of red and black within the cabin, Mulliner’s skills are showcased by the Hotspur Continental GT V8 S Beluga hide and steering rim colour selections. Based on the Monster logo, Mulliner created a unique 3D laser-etched fascia panel designed exclusively for this vehicle, complementing the Piano Black finish. The Continental GT V8 S also features the Monster motto: “Always Lead, Never Follow” and “Monster by Mulliner” headrest embroidery.

The exterior is finished in a ‘stunning colour scheme and intricate flourishes’. Its Onyx exterior coloured paint is highlighted with Hotspur accents including a unique body kit and radiator shell bezel. Along with red brake calipers and a gloss black polished wheel, the black bonnet vents are also stylised. This vehicle also includes the GT Design Seat by Mulliner.

Head Monster Noel Lee noted: “Monster is proud to collaborate with Bentley on bringing the sound and look of a Monster ride to those who want something bold and different. With our Pure Monster Sound system, the drive will be truly incredible and brings a new level of excitement to the driving experience. That’s why this collaboration for the Continental GT V8 S is such a perfect fit. Our Monster motto ‘Always Lead Never Follow’ has never been more appropriately applied than in association with this impeccably designed automobile.”

Geoff Dowding, Director of Mulliner, said: “The inspiration for this Mulliner commission came from a meeting with Monster’s CEO Noel Lee at Pebble Beach in 2015, where we exchanged business cards. The card contained several brand details, such as the Monster-pattern design and the red, black and silver colour scheme. It was the ideal starting point from which to create this incredible vehicle.”

Bentley introduces stone veneers by Mulliner

Bentley’s bespoke division, Mulliner, has unveiled a new stone veneer interior finish.

State-of-the-art stone veneer technology has been utilised, says Bentley, ‘to make a luxurious, contemporary feature of a natural product formed over 200 million years’.

Sections of slate and quartzite stone, sourced from quarries in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, India, are split from larger pieces and cured using glass fibre and a bespoke resin.

Finally, they are shaped and hand finished by Bentley’s Mulliner coachbuilding team at the company’s headquarters in Crewe, England.

The stone surfaces of the veneers are just 0.1 mm thick, so they are both extremely light and translucent, allowing the grain and pattern to be visible to the interior occupants.

Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, comments: “We are the established experts in the handcrafting of wood and
leather, and now we are exploring new, fine and rare materials to offer even more bespoke tailoring and choice to our customers. Stone veneers are another first for Bentley – but only the beginning of what we plan to do with this luxurious and unique material.”

Mulliner is offering Stone Veneers in a natural finish, in four different colours on the Continental and Flying Spur: Galaxy, Autumn White, Terra Red and Copper. Mulliner’s bespoke team will work with individual customers to discuss their unique requirements.

First Bentley Bentayga rolls off production line

The very first production Bentley Bentayga has left the assembly line in Crewe.

Four years on from the initial concept stage, Bentley's first SUV will now enter full production, with customers deliveries starting in January 2016. The first production Bentayga, finished in an Anthracite colour was handcrafted across 130 hours, and is set to join Bentley's Heritage Collection. During the assembly process, the car passed through a new bodystore, a new paint shop and a new assembly line, all part of a 'substantial investment' by Bentley.

Prime Minister David Cameron, commented: "I am delighted that the first Bentley Bentayga has rolled off the production line in Crewe. It marks the culmination of a period of exceptional hard work by Bentley and its dedicated workforce as they brought this remarkable new vehicle to market.

Wolfgang Durheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, said: "Bentley Bentayga will be the benchmark against which all other SUVs are measured, defining a new segment - the luxury SUV. This car is a celebration of UK manufacturing at its very best, not only reinforcing our commitment to industry in this country, job creation and significant investment, but to our home in Crewe".

The Bentayga represents an £800 million investment into the Crewe factory backed by £9.5 million from the Regional Growth Fund, creating hundreds of jobs for the area and secured the future of production onsite.

Michael Straughan, Bentley's Member of the Board for Manufacturing, addressed the company's 4,000-strong workforce as the car was driven from the final production stage. He said: "This is a proud moment for the entire company. It's been four years in the making and is a celebration of a sector-defining British handcrafted car."

Prices for the Bentley Bentayga are expected to start around the £160,000 mark.

James Bond posters to go under the hammer

Auctioneers Coys are selling a collection of rare James Bond film posters and memorabilia at their "True Greats" auction on December 1.

The sale will feature posters from iconic productions such as Thunderball, Her Majesty's Secret Service, The World is Not Enough, Octopussy, You Only Live Twice, Dr No, Goldfinger and SPECTRE. The release of the latest Bond film last month has spiked interest, proving the 007 franchise is as popular as ever.

Perhaps the most anticipated item to go on sale is the rare 1965 Thunderball poster, which is estimated from £8,000 to £10,000. "Originally designed in four panel format, intended to be cut into two or four for the cinema to use around the advertising area, this particular version was never cut into sections and is one of the finest examples available." said, Adrian Cowdry, vintage poster specialist at Coys.

A limited edition SPECTRE poster that was designed for the cast and crew of the film will also feature and is estimated to fetch between £700 to £800.

There will also be a number of first edition Bond novels on sale, including Man with the Golden Gun, Octopussy and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, estimated at £150 to £500.

Also on sale is a 1928 Supercharged Bentley Blower. Long before Ian Fleming placed James Bond at the wheel of an Aston Martin, he had 007 thundering around in a Bentley in the early novels.

Coys' "True Greats" auction takes place on Tuesday 1 December 2015 at 3pm at the Royal Horticultural Society, Lindley Hall, Vincent Square, Westminster, London, SW1P 2PE.

Viewing is available on Monday 30 November and on the day of the sale from 10am.

Exclusive Bentleys inspired by Breitling Jets

Bentley has unveiled the exclusive Continental GT Speed Breitling Jet Team Series.

Limited to just seven cars, each is inspired by one of the seven Breitling Jets, commemorating their forthcoming grand tour across the United States and Canada.

Bentley's Mulliner division has re-imagined the Continental GT Speed to mirror the distinctive look of the Breitling Jets, with the exterior painted in a duo-tone split of Hallmark and Onyx with highlights colour-matched to the exact Pantone reference of the Swiss watch company's unique Yellow, reflecting the trademark look of the L-39 Albatros Jets.

The colour theme is continued on the interior, with unique sculpted seats featuring accents in Breitling Yellow.

Each car is individually numbered and corresponds to one of the seven Breitling Jets. The dashboard's carbon fibre fascia panel displays an image of the seven planes in their signature Avenger flight formation, with the corresponding jet highlighted in Breitling Yellow.

Similarly, Mulliner has matched the hide and thread to Breitling's signature yellow and designed a series of logos and graphics for the headrests that highlight the number of each car and the jet that inspired it. The tread plate plaques are also individually numbered.

The series will debut at the Boeing Seafair Airshow on 31 July in Seattle, where the Team is performing. The key for each car will be handed over to its owner by the corresponding plane's pilot, but not until they have experienced a flight in the jet that inspired their car.

Geoff Dowding, Director of Mulliner, said: "The Continental GT Speed Breitling Jet Team Series demonstrates the level of customisation Mulliner can achieve for customers. Creating this very special edition has been an exciting experience for the entire team, taking inspiration from the Breitling Jet Team's grand tour."

The Breitling Jet Team is the world's largest professional civilian flight team performing in jets. The team is comprised of seven L-39 C Albatros jets that can reach speeds of up to 565 mph and fly within just a few feet of each other.

Widely recognised for their precision and seamless coordination displayed throughout high-speed aerobatic performances, the France-based team is appearing in North America for the very first time.
