A third of all convertibles, for sale privately, are sold in London, according to data from used car database Cardata.
And, there are more soft tops exchanging hands in Yorkshire and Scotland than the West country (8.5% and 3.7% vs. 3%) - despite this being the area famed for its milder climes and long hours of sunshine. The demand for a convertible has encouraged new registrations this year to increase by a massive 21%*, making the convertible market in the UK bigger than Spain, France and Italy.
The data on used cars, analysed by Cardata, revealed several other anomalies on where to find a particular vehicle type. 4x4s are most common in London, with over a fifth of the country's rough terrain vehicles being sold within the M25.
"Naturally, where there are more motorists you would expect more vehicles to be up for sale," comments Andrew Sobell, marketing manager of Cardata. "But a huge number of 4x4's were found to be on sale in city centres and urban areas, where they are unlikely to ever see mud or go off road."
However, if you are a motorist wanting a specific type of vehicle, there are regions where you are better off looking. Saloons are most commonly found in the East and South East, but if it's a 3-door hatchback you're after, the North East, North West, Scotland and Wales will have the greatest pick of the bunch. |
