Earlier this week, I attended a Peugeot dealership in West London for the launch of ‘Mu by Peugeot.’ In essence, it’s a ‘mobility solution’ idea imported from France for trial here. Uniquely placed amongst its peers, Peugeot can not only hire you a lion-badged car or van, but also a bicycle or 50cc scooter, Coupe-Cabriolet, and much more. Mu members order online their transport of choice (with the promise of receiving that EXACT vehicle, and not an ‘or similar’ substitute.) The prices are competitive and vehicles are dropped back to the dealership afterwards. So, can it work? Peugeot stresses that it is not trying to compete with Avis, Europcar et al for the tyre-kicking segment, but can provide a genuine alternative for hirers. How it works
Do you need a van for a holiday, to help you move to a new place, or for some other temporary reason? If you are considering borrowing someone else’s van for a short period, consider what would happen if you were to get into an accident. Would your regular vehicle insurance cover you? Even if you are covered you risk losing your no-claims bonus. If you only need to drive a van for a limited period of time, then there is no need to have a permanent van insurance policy if you need a van for just 1 week, 2 or 3 weeks, or a month, 2 months, 3 months, 6 months or even more.
