Sir Paul McCartney has received a new 'environmentally-friendly' car, delivered to him via not-so-friendly aircraft.
Luxury marque Lexus offered the LS600h hybrid saloon to the ex-Beatle, 65, as a gift.
As a well-known vegetarian and environmentalist, McCartney was reportedly impressed with the lower emissions of the car.
However, the £84,000 Lexus arrived stowed in the hold of Korean Air flight from Japan.
The Times asked carbon offset firm CO2balance.com to calculate the approximate environmental cost of sending a 2-tonne car via air freight.
The company concluded CO2 emissions of 38,050kg for the airborne Lexus, against less than 400kg for the traditional, 3-week slow boat route. |
