BMW adds range-topping Z4

It's not quite an 'M', but BMW has added a new flagship model to the Z4 range with extra performance.

The new BMW Z4 sDrive35is with the M Sports Package has a modified straight-six power unit with BMW Twin Turbo Technology and High Precision Injection.

It also comes as a seven-speed Sport Automatic with double clutch operation and adaptive M Suspension as standard.

Maximum output of the 3.0-litre power unit has increased to 340 hp.

Peak torque is 450 Newton-metres, increasing briefly with the Overboost function to 500 Newton-metres.

All of which means the sDrive35is Roadster can accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds.

Nonetheless, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are the same as on the BMW Z4 sDrive35i with Sport Automatic.

The BMW Z4 sDrive35is will make its world debut at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January.
