Patent filed for 250 mpg car
 09.05.2006
An American company has filed a patent application for a car capable of 250 mpg on petrol or ethanol.

US technology developer AFS Trinity Power Corporation has filed a patent application disclosing its new technology for an 'Extreme Hybrid' car capable of achieving 250 mpg on petrol or ethanol.

Described by its designers, AFS Trinity Power Corporation, as an 'Extreme Hybrid', the car will plug into domestic electricity supply overnight to run without gasoline or ethanol for the average 40 miles a day that Americans are said to drive. For longer trips, the vehicle will operate as a conventional hybrid.

AFS Trinity plans to build the XH drive train with the help of UK-based Ricardo. AFS Trinity and Ricardo have signed a mutually exclusive technology partnership agreement to work together to develop plug-in hybrid technology. With sufficient funding they expect that XH demonstration vehicles could be in the hands of fleet owners in two years and could be licensed for mass production in three.
