And now The Sun newspaper is reporting that the economic downturn has hit many celebrities where it hurts - in the wallet.
The slump has forced many stars of stage and screen to watch the value of their assets plunge including mansions, artwork and, in Cage's case, even an island.
A relation of Francis Ford Coppola, Con Air star Cage is now embroiled in a lawsuit with his former business manager, Samuel Levin.
Levin claims the actor went on a lavish spending spree after his 2007 film, National Treasure 2, for which Cage was paid £15million.
However, Cage says his funds were mismanaged by his partner, and is demanding £12million compensation.
Cage's shopping list has come to light as part of the case. He owns nine Rolls-Royce Phantoms, which start from around £250,000 each.
As well as the luxury saloons, the 45-year old actor also owns four yachts, 15 different homes worldwide and a private jet.
Plus the private island in the Bahamas is worth a whopping £4.5million.
Many of his assets are now up for sale, including a castle in the English countryside.
